Jumping Spider

Hydraulic action rather than muscle power, enables jumping spiders to make their olympian jumps, although in these pictures the distance covered was restricted to reduce the total length of the image. The photographs show how these little creatures can even jump from an inverted position, adjusting their bodies in mid 'flight' to touch-down at a suitable angle on the chosen landing point.

This Pantropical jumper is found in hot countries all over the world, especially around human habitation.
This picture together with 200 others appears in Stephen's latest book 'SPIDERS' published in October last year.
