GREATER-HORSHOE BAT

To show the bat's remarkable technique for catching rapidly moving insects in total darkness, it was necessary for me to visit Frankfurt where Professor Neuweiler was doing research on bat's Doppler based echo location system. The left hand images shows the animal bending forward to collect the moth caught in its wing.
Sadly this spectacular species of bat is extremely rare in Great Britain now.
